Ellen Kardanow was born in 1936 in the Poland/Ukraine area. She survived by hiding with a Christian family of five. She was the only one left alive in her family until an aunt from Russia found her and took her to Siberia, Poland, Germany, and then to the United States. She came to the United States in 1948, and here she produced a Jewish newspaper.
